As makers of the most gorgeous iron cribs, Bratt Decor gets this question all the time. The short answer is, just as with wooden cribs, it depends. If you are buying a brand new crib, by law, all cribs must adhere to the most current safety standards as set forth by the U. S. Consumer Safety Commission. There is absolutely no difference as far as safety is concerned, between a brand new wood crib or a brand new iron crib. Older model and used cribs, regardless of their construction materials, may no longer meet safety standards, and may have been compromised in their integrity with usage and storage. We always recommend, if no where else, buy new when it comes to your crib. After all, this is the place where your baby will spend the most amount of time without your eyes on them.

People fear that because metal is

Safely and securely adding a mirror to the nursery can make the room look larger, brighter, and more sophisticated. Also, babies just love to look at themselves. Here’s what you need to know to add a beautiful mirror to your baby’s room.

Securely fasten the mirror to the wall. This is the most important detail when adding mirrors, artwork or any decor that could fall. A cable wire hung across a single hook or nail is completely out of the question. Thread wire through D hooks on the back of the mirror and tie it off. Note, each D hook will need its own hook in the wall. Always hang your mirror on a stud. Make sure you are using hangers that are rated to handle the weight of your mirror. When mirror is in position, Run your wire through the hangers and secure.

Designer tips:

Maximize natural light: Hanging a mirror

The market for baby and kids' furniture has changed since you were a child.

Upholstered gliders have replaced creaky rockers, and cute bunny wall borders have morphed into peel-and-stick graphic decals, like those from Wallcandyarts.com.

More than two-thirds of parents find out the sex of their babies before birth, but many still want a neutral look for the nursery. These days, they have more options than white cribs.

Bratt Decor in Baltimore is selling a lot of its classic-but-playful heritage pieces in a matte, antiqued black. Several winners of Child magazine's recent kids'-room design contest featured black furniture and accessories.

Stores and catalogs like PBTeen are offering fun design options that even parents can stomach, like striped floor pillows and butterfly chairs.

What's old is new again. Vintage prints and fabrics are popular with parents who don't want that bed-in-a-bag look.

Buddy, the Cake Boss, Valastro, and his wife Lisa welcomed new baby Carlo to the family, and brought him home to his styling Bratt Décor nursery. Designer, Sherri Blum, worked closely with the couple to make their dreams come true. <><>

The couple choose a green pallet, with a safari theme for their baby boy. The Bratt Décor venetian crib in pewter was stunning in Olena Boyko bedding. Expecting tons of tiny couture, the couple also opted for the roomy 7 drawer dresser with change top and beautiful armoire.

In traditional Cake Boss style, Buddy recreated the entire room in cake for his wife, Lisa. She was surprised and thrilled with the results.

Project Nursery dishes about the wow factor of round cribs. In a recent article they say "Many parents choose the crib to be the focal point of the nursery, after all it's going to be the favorite resting space of the real star of the nursery - your baby! Using a round crib automatically takes your nursery design up a notch and will be the first thing people notice when they enter the space. And, I don't know about you, but I find something inherently cozy about the round shape." We agree and are thrilled to see both our Chelsea Darling Oval Cribs and J'adore Iron Oval (metal) baby crib among their favorites. Visit brattdecor.com to see our beautiful oval cribs/cradle/daybed options.

Alexa Prisco isn't known for sitting back and just letting things happen—this Jersey girl takes charge! So, it's no surprise that the new mom didn't just buy a crib and a few outfits for her little girl's nursery.

The Glam Fairy turned the loft area of her New Jersey apartment into daugther McKayla's nursery with the help of Bratt Decor's Mary Bauer. After gathering ideas from baby magazines, Alexa told Mary that she wanted the room to be glam and girly. "The one thing I really did not want was for it to look like my closet," Alexa told Style. "That has a punchy hot pink and black, a more boutique look. I wanted to make sure that whatever I brought up here, it was sophisticated."

She wanted the room to be cozy and beautiful while still allowing McKayla to have her own identity. Shunning the bright white that's often typical in

one are the days when an infant's room had to be pastel. Today's babies are more likely to hang out in room that's black or gray and accented with pops of color and sparkling accessories.

First comes love, then comes marriage and then comes time to pick out the baby carriage — and decorate the nursery.<> Already the tabloids are speculating on the room where England's heir to the throne will lay his royal head when Prince William's and Kate Middleton's baby is born in July. And even though Kim Kardashian and Kanye West aren't quite in sync with the old rhyme, the gossip magazines are anticipating the extravagant nursery the couple will add to their $11 million mansion in Bel Air.

What inspired you to design cribs?
The inspiration was the creation of our first nursery. Stephen is a trained artist and furniture designer, and when we couldn't find any furnishings that spoke to our tastes, he designed one for our baby. We worked together and put things into that crib that spoke to each of us personally. For me, it was the medium of French wrought iron, which I love. For him, it was the ostrich plumes from his beloved home of South Africa. The blending was sublime, and unlike anything that had ever existed.

How has your company grown over the years?
Our company has grown and morphed with our growing family, and the changing needs and tastes of our clients. Design is a fluid movement.

What advice would you give to someone pursuing their dreams?
I would say, absolutely, go for it! If you've been awakened, deep within your spirit,

Our client is a true cowgirl at heart, and wanted to pass on her love of all things western to her new baby. We wanted to create a chic nursery that was western in style, but still elegant and not overly thematic. We started by taking a rustic color scheme as our inspiration, using earthy tones and deep reds as our palette. We brought in a lot of wood tones and textures, and made sure the main furniture pieces were elegant and versatile. Our client had a very special vintage saddle stand, which we turned into an ottoman for the glider, adding sentimentality to the space. The textiles are a mix of luxurious silks and rustic suedes. The nursery was completed with a pop of cow print and a fabulous hide rug to pull the whole space together.

In an effort to increase sales and compete in a quickly changing marketplace, Bratt Decor has slashed prices on all of their iron collection and are working to expand their Mainstreet Collection which debuted at last year's JPMA.

"We believe the lowering of our wholesale prices on our iron line will allow our specialty shops to be more competitive in the marketplace. We've test marketed the results and it's been amazing! Our iron line has been extremely well received since our incorporation 6 years ago and lowering prices will only make it more popular. Until now, it was almost impossible to buy an iron crib for less than $1200; now our most popular model, Casablanca Premiere, will retail for $900," says President Mary Bauer.

Additionally, the company has added another wooden crib to their Mainstreet Collection. "Our newest crib, Heritage, is available in barn red and white. It is handrubbed and constructed

This collection is so fresh with that vintage element that never goes out of style.

While giving Access Hollywood.com’s Laura Saltman a tour of the baby nursery, featuring the gorgeous Bratt Décor Chelsea Collection, in silver, Mel B says, that decorating was a bit of a challenge, as she had to keep everything neutral. As with the other 2 children, she was not going to find out the sex of the baby. She chose a cool gray and lavender pallet, for her nursery. This room is total Hollywood glam, featuring the stunning Chelesa Lifetime crib in iron, 7 drawer dresser with change top, and spacious armoire. This room is designed to last, as the crib converts to a beautiful full size bed. <><>

This nursery is gorgeous, with dripping chandeliers and a circular, velvet draped nursing nook. The minimal painting of Big Ben gives a cheeky nod to her hometown of London. Mel B worked with Little Crown Interiors to complete the look.
