What inspired you to design cribs?
The inspiration was the creation of our first nursery. Stephen is a trained artist and furniture designer, and when we couldn't find any furnishings that spoke to our tastes, he designed one for our baby. We worked together and put things into that crib that spoke to each of us personally. For me, it was the medium of French wrought iron, which I love. For him, it was the ostrich plumes from his beloved home of South Africa. The blending was sublime, and unlike anything that had ever existed.

How has your company grown over the years?
Our company has grown and morphed with our growing family, and the changing needs and tastes of our clients. Design is a fluid movement.

What advice would you give to someone pursuing their dreams?
I would say, absolutely, go for it! If you've been awakened, deep within your spirit,

Mario Lopez is dubbed the "Sexiest Dad Ever" by OK Magazine, and one look at the full page, shirtless papa holding sweet baby Gia, and we think you'll agree.  When asked what the first thing that he thought when seeing baby Gia for the first time, the E host replied, "She had so much hair!  It was thick, black and curly.  I always thought babies were born bald.  She needed a haircut the second she was born!"
The article features the happy family,  lots of dad and baby, and yes the gorgeous nursery designed by Bratt Decor's own Mary Bauer, and featuring the chelsea lifetime in silver, the beautiful seven drawer dresser with change top, the stately armoire, and beautiful little night stand, all in antique silver.  The room is simply stunning.  Lopez says the being a father is the role he was born to play.

"Simple elegance always endures," says Boy O Boy children's boutique owner Michelle Jackson as she speaks to the creative process of designing a nursery.

The Jamaica Observer's Style Innovator of the Year, Jackson has partnered with Thursday Life DIY diva Angelie Martin-Spencer to create comfy-chic custom-designed spaces for both mum and baby under the banner of Distinctive Nursery Design.

Themselves no strangers to motherhood, the chicsters have sought to converge all the classic elements that are sure to make mum and baby's first memories even more precious.

Every detail is considered while bearing in mind the transition that baby will make to the toddler stage...nurseries are designed to grow with the baby.

"Everything put in a room adds to the simplicity and functionality of the space," Jackson says, noting that the absence of characters gives a timeless feel.

"She will enjoy this room when she's six months, six or 16," Jackson

HOT PICS!

Mario Lopez's New Nursery

Oh Baby! The Extra host and dad-to-be takes Us inside his tot's new room.

When Mario Lopez and girlfriend Courtney Mazza transformed a bedroom in their new Glendale, California, home for the little on they're expecting this month, they were inspired - by Jennifer Lopez! "I saw a picture of J. Lo's twins' nursery, and I thought, It's so timeless and elegant," says the mom-to-be, 28. "So we found her decorator, Mary Bauer from Bratt Decor." The designer furnished the room in gender-neutral shades because the couple, who met in 2008 while working on Broadway's A Chorus Line, are waiting until delivery day to learn the sex of their firstborn. "Where else in life do you get such special surprises?" asks the Extra host, 36. "I hope with all our kids it will be a surprise." That's right: The TV star (who has penned a book for first-time dads due out

When I first lay eyes on Bratt Decor’s gorgeous furniture, I could completely understand why the stars are totally in love with these furniture pieces! Apparently Mario Lopez and Courtney Mazza agree with me as not only did they have Bratt Decor’s President, Mary Bauer, decorate their nursery, they opted for my all-time favorite collections!

This Summer, Mary Bauer, flew out to Los Angeles to meet with Mario and Courtney to design an elegant and peaceful nursery for their baby. The room was to be unisex as the couple decided not to find out the sex. “It’s one of the few surprises left.” said Lopez to designer Bauer.

Because Courtney loves the European elegance of crystal chandeliers and Venetian glass, the Chelsea collection in antique silver (did I mention this was my favorite?) was a perfect choice.

The designer was on a deadline as the entire nursery make over was being filmed

When it comes to work/life balance, Mary Bauer has it down. For more than a decade, she's been running Bratt Decor, a specialty line of nursery furniture, together with her husband, Stephen.
A classically trained artist, Stephen designs all of the company's products. "His careful attention to nuance and detail make each of our pieces a work of art," Mary says. The couple caters to parents looking for unique artisan cribs.

During the summer, the pair's two teenage boys also help out with the business, doing everything from accounting to advertising. Mary believes involving her sons has been a blessing for everyone: "They have a real appreciation for the work that we do."

So, how do the Bauers peacefully intertwine business and family? The key, Mary says, "was figuring out what our greatest strengths were and separating responsibilities." Still, she admits their best work comes when their individual viewpoints are combined. "I don't

back from Louisville, KY for the 2010 Spring Conference for independent retailers in the baby and kids industry, and we had a blast. First of all, Louisville is a very charming city, clean, friendly and with a decidedly sophisticated edge. We loved the cool restaurants, and shops. The Museum Hotel was amazing, and was actually just written up in Conde Nast. Check it out, if you're going to Louisville.<><> The show was small and exciting. We saw some of our wonderful store owners from around the country. We saw Debbie from Beautiful Beginnings in Chicago, who is doing great with the line. Spent some time with two of our favorite Left Coast Girls who own The Juvenile Shop in Sherman Oaks, California. If you're ever out there, stop in because the store is beautiful and the service is unparalleled. There was cool new products on the market that you may love.

Go Green In The Nursery

The biggest change I've noticed in the world over the last five years, would be the world wide awakening that has happened as far as our responsibility to this earth, and how we can evoke positive changes. I have to say, that I am thrilled with this new state of being. I am a nature lover, most peaceful in the mountains, and being half Lumbee Indian, I always felt a special connection to the earth, the forest, the rivers, the air . . . So, naturally I've tried to incorporate respect for the earth in all areas of my life, including my business. And, as more and more demand for eco friendly products emerge, so do the resources to create them. That is one of the reasons I love business, it will make available what we demand, and if our consciousness turns toward more responsible behavior,
