Making Room For Baby - Angelie Martin-Spencer and Michelle Jackson

"Simple elegance always endures," says Boy O Boy children's boutique owner Michelle Jackson as she speaks to the creative process of designing a nursery.

The Jamaica Observer's Style Innovator of the Year, Jackson has partnered with Thursday Life DIY diva Angelie Martin-Spencer to create comfy-chic custom-designed spaces for both mum and baby under the banner of Distinctive Nursery Design.

Themselves no strangers to motherhood, the chicsters have sought to converge all the classic elements that are sure to make mum and baby's first memories even more precious.

Every detail is considered while bearing in mind the transition that baby will make to the toddler stage...nurseries are designed to grow with the baby.

"Everything put in a room adds to the simplicity and functionality of the space," Jackson says, noting that the absence of characters gives a timeless feel.

"She will enjoy this room when she's six months, six or 16," Jackson quips, alluding to the pink, chocolate and silver wonderland she and her partner have created.

The dream nursery, she tells SO, features must-have pieces by Bratt Décor - all the rage in Hollywood among celebrity parents like Mario Lopez, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony and Kourtney Kardashian - as well as accessories from Dwell Studio. She mentions, too, haute brands like IIe Baby and Serena & Lily are also available.

"We don't do the bed-in-a-bag thing," says Jackson, "our custom-made beddings - the crib is always the focal piece - and window treatments are designed by Angelie."

Theirs is a creative space, where wall treatments and flooring harmonise to perfectly frame bonding time between mum and her little one.

"Our approach to décor is fundamentally a pairing of style and practicality...these rooms are made specially to cater to baby's journey."
