Luxury Rooms For Children

2005
Madonna, Cindy Crawford, and Heather Locklear are just a few of the celebrity moms with kids we love to watch. You can be sure these moms want the finest in room decor for their babies and children. This desire has probably helped fuel a race to bring luxurious kids furniture and accessories to market.

We're not sure how many new parents will actually pop for the $28,000 castle bed featured in the 2000 issue of the Neiman Marcus Catalog.

But they might opt for some of the more affordable, though still plush items for babies and children that are currently available. Just what are the trends in opulence for kids? Currently in fashion is the Italian villa look using warm color-washed walls in golden yellows and furnished with trendy wrought iron furniture (such as the baby changing table from Bratt Decor pictured at right).

Another trend is hot colors. One recent Designer Showhouse featured a large baby nurserydone in bright greens, white, and hot fuschia pinks. The room included a lavishly skirted crib, topped with a sheer white canopy floating down from the ceiling. In the corner a hand-painted dresser was decorated with a lively mix of florals, checks, and dots for an exuberant touch. The hip colors and vibrant patterns, however, were cooled with acres of white in flooring, trims, and fabrics.

They might start at Bratt Decor, with sumptuous nursery furnishings named like old Italian movies such as "Casablanca Plume" (a crib with feather plumes). This hand made nursery furniture is fashioned from bent wrought iron in retro French and mod Italian styles. And, many of the pieces can be converted to other items (such as cribs to daybeds).

Also from Bratt Decor is this large baby armoire, offering a choice of handle finishes in either gold or silver leaf, with the option of custom handpainted doors. Bratt Decor's line also includes changing tables and cradles, as well as a table and chair set with crown-shaped backs, fit for a little princess (pictured on the following page).

Another choice for posh baby looks is La tendresse, makers of elaborately ruffled bedding and accessories for infants. A wide variety of baby colors in items from bassinet liners to ruffled baskets can be seen at this French site.

Those who prefer a more "designer" look, however, may choose Bebe chic which carries over 250 fabrics to achieve color coordinated perfection. Bebe chic will then fashion your fabric choices into wonderful custom-made baby bedding. These fabric choices are a sophisticated blend of florals, stripes, checks, and prints, and many would please new moms as well as older kids and teenagers.
