Nursery School
October 2007
What does it take to put together a fantastic nursery? It turns out you don't need a huge budget, interior designer pals or even a perfect space--just a little creativity and sense of what will work for your family. In fact, the whole process was a lot easier than P&N's very pregnant AMY BRAYFIELD expected it to be--which is a good thing, since she waited till pretty much the last possible minute to prep her own nursery.

Things to consider.....

Think furniture

You're going to need a crib and a storage center, but beyond that, think about what you and your baby will

Bratt Decor, the on-line, high-end infant and toddler furniture and accessory store favored by stars (Heidi Klum, Tori Spelling and Courtney Cox are customers), recently opened its first retil store in our area (another is in Baltimore). At the nearby location, near Tysons, the style is high. Find the basics: animal-shaped soaps, books, bedding, birth announcements and night lights (from $4.50 to $230), and the not-so-basics: Venetian iron cribs ($875), leather kiddie club chairs in pink and red ($180), tricked-out trikes ($249) and a vintage, pram-inspired doll carriage ($700). Our favorite fantasy find: the stunning Silver Cross

Ex-Bachelorette Trista Tells Her Story
September 26, 2007
On July 27, 2007 the ex-Bachelorette Trista Sutter and her firefighter husband welcomed their first child, Maxwell Alston Sutter, into the world. But their two years of TTC were not completely smooth. Trista joined host Kim Hahn to candidly discuss her conception story, which includes nearly 100 pregnancy tests, a crucial time-saving tool for Trista, and the concession that just maybe it was time to consult a fertility expert . . . all culminating in what Trista says "was the happiest cry I've ever cried in my life.

Here's what Trista had to say about little Max's nursery!

What makes Bratt Decor unique simple and classic style paired with quality craftsmanship.

The functionality of the line as well as it's ability to be gender neutral is amazing. For example, my daughter Henley has the Heritage Crib in white with the bunny finials. If my next child is a boy, I just trade out the bunnies for airplane finials and it is now for a boy.

Most convertible cribs will convert to toddler beds, but let's face it they really are not very attractive. With the conversion rails (sold separately) The Bratt Decor wooden cribs convert to the sweetest little toddler

Because of the recent lead paint issues within the children's toy industry, I feel it prudent to reassure all of our clients that all Bratt Decor's finishes have been tested by an independent internationally respected testing laboratory, and all comply to both U.S. and European standards for lead content.

In other words all of Bratt's products are manufactured free of icky stuff like formaldehyde, lead and toxic dyes.

Our most recent testing is dated August 17, 2007. The conclusion of these tests was that the finishes complied with the United Sates Standard ASTM F963-07 and the European Standard EN71 Part 3:

Here's what we like: A shamelessly feminine nursery that manages to be posh and sophisticated as the same time--much like a certain little girl who lives at the Plaza Hotel. Modern, romantic and whimsical at the same time, this Eloise-inspired nursery reminds us of Dior's New Look. Sometimes it's OK to just enjoy being a girl.

Check out Bratt Decor's ultra feminie furnishings (Jane crib and changer/dresser) featured throughout this Eloise-inspired nursery! We like this look too!
Trista & Ryan Welcome a Baby Boy In Style
August 2007
First came love, then came marriage, and now Trista and Ryan Sutter of ABC's The Bachelorette, have welcomed a baby boy, Maxwell Altson Sutter, to their fairytale love story.

The couple welcomed the baby into the world on July 26th. Little Maxwell (5 pounds, 3 ounces and 18 inches long) is the first child for the Sutters, who met on the first season of ABC's The Bachelorette and were married on television in December of 2003.

Max sleeps in a fun striped nursery decked out in furnishings by Bratt Decor. His nursery, which was designed to be unisex, now screams "BOY!"

Creating Their Own Niche
July 2007
When Mary Bauer was pregnant with her first child in 1995, she did what most new parents do--searched for the right nursery furniture. But for Mary and her husband, Stephen, that search proved futile.

"The face of juvenile furniture was very different," Mary said. "We were trying to find sophisticated, well-designed baby furniture. But it was either very high-end European or Babies "R" Us. There was nothing in between."

After finding nothing that suited their tastes, Stephen, who at the time was working as a commercial illustrator but has a background in furniture making in his native South Africa, designed a crib

Bratt Decor A Celeb Favorite!
June 2007
Bratt Decor, Belvedere Square's design house for the diaper set, outfitted desperate housewife Marcia Cross's nursery for her twin daughters, Eden and Savannah. Her order? Two dick cribs, two Dick changing tables, and a pink Jane round table and scalloped chair set. The star must have been pleased with the results. She sent founder Mary Bauer a gushing e-mail, "It is without question the most beautiful room in the house!"
